The BC2000 Book Awards, sponsored by the provincial government and the Association of Book Publishers of BC, aim to raise the profile of BC authors and to put more BC books on library shelves. The program provides $300,000 to school libraries to buy more than 22,000 designated titles published in 1999 and through March 2000.
The minister responsible for British Columbia 2000, Andrew Petter, said the awards provide a millennium legacy in print, a key goal of BC2000. "These books illustrate many aspects of our province’s place in the world, and the BC2000 seal will encourage British Columbians to seek them out and read them."
"The publishing industry in BC is producing award-winning books on the international stage," said Culture Minister Ian Waddell. "We wanted the industry to know how much we appreciate them right here at home."
We at Sono Nis Press are thrilled that four of our books were among the 61 selected for these important awards:

The Broad Canvas: Portraits of Women by Women by Linda Rogers, photos by Barbara Pedrick
Total Awareness: A Woman's Safety Book by Darren Laur and Beth Laur
Many congratulations to all of these fine authors!
