Ted Bentley

Ted Bentley was born in British Columbia and has lived on Bowen Island since 1991. Ted holds a Ph.D in Statistics and teaches mathematics at Capilano College. He shares with Mary a love of nature and interest in native cultures which he expresses through photography.

Mary and Ted have explored and recorded the the rock carvings of Gabriola Island since 1969. They are commited to the preservation of these unique petroglyphs and to promoting an understanding of the native culture which produced them.

Gabriola Petroglyph Island

Native Indian rock art, the petroglyph, is found all over the Northwest coast and is one of the least understood cultural legacies of Northwest coast native people. Gabriola Island houses a major petroglyph site and several small ones. Mary and Ted Bentley have spent close to a quarter of a century investigating them... their book was first published in 1981, selling through two printings. This is a completely revised edition, including new photographs, rubbings and text.
