Our office and warehouse were destroyed by fire on August 4, 2016. We are not accepting submissions.
Sono Nis Press is currently accepting submissions for middle reader fiction for ages 9 - 14; our primary areas of interest are First Nations, historical fiction, or high-quality literary fiction with a Canadian theme. Please NO picture books, poetry, rhyming, or fantasy. Feel free to submit a manuscript proposal by email first but do not include your manuscript.
Please include in the body of your email the following information:
- Brief summary (two or three sentences).
- Brief author bio (two or three sentences).
- Any previous publishing history and/or any writing awards you’ve received.
We do not publish adult fiction, poetry, political, self-help, or non-Canadian authors.
Proposals or manuscripts sent by mail should be printed on white 8.5 x 11 paper, double-spaced, and include a cover letter, outline, a sample chapter or two, and a brief author bio. Queries submitted without a self-addressed stamped envelope will not be answered unless an email address is provided. Manuscripts will not be returned unless we also receive a self-addressed envelope with sufficient return postage. Material sent without a self-addressed, stamped envelope with sufficient postage will not be returned.
Please do not send original art, original photographs, or an ONLY copy of anything. If photographs or illustrations would enhance the publication, please supply a description of what is available.
Sono Nis Press tries to respond to all submissions within three months of receipt. We regret that we can not provide a critique of your work unless we are considering publishing it.
If we turn down your manuscript, don't be discouraged! In addition to the quality of the writing, countless other factors influence what we accept for publication. A manuscript that we turn down could become a bestseller for another publisher.
Please see the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia for advice to writers submitting manuscripts, and other useful publishing information.
